Mudras have very extra ordinary powers. The practice of Mudras brings about a quick and fundamental reversion of destructive changes in the humam body. They develop virtuous, socially amicable, nonviolent,  pious and courteous disposition.

So lets talk about Mukul Mudra , also known as Samana  Mudra, Sukri Mudra, Tridosha naashak Mudra and Beak hand Mudra.
This mudra balances all the five elements and three humors of the body. This Mudra can be used to overcome any disease, as it helps to draw more cosmic energy and bring balance between mind and body.


This Mudra is formed by joining together the tips of the thumb and all the four fingers. It resembles a bud– Mukul in sanskrit.

1. When this Mudra is placed on the tense or hurting part of the body, it gets relief immediately.
2. The electro magnetic forces generated when the five fingers come together is tremendous and that brings about the balance of all the elements.
3. It is like a sharp focus of healing energy, like a laser beam or a shaft of light, which is directed to the area of concern, so one feels instantly rejuvenated.
4. All the fingers get equal importance with the Agni, that’s why it gives instant result.

    …..human body needs to be virtuous, socially amicable, nonviolent, pious and with courteous disposition else it’s true that body would contract some or other sort of ailments psychological as well as physiological. If mudras can be contributory towards alleviating disorders then one should spare some time for the said manifestation so that 5 elements & 3 humors do get stable which in other words is good for mind and body. This mudra starts with rejuvenating once again from square one to higher datum.
    Resemblance of this mudra with FLOWER BUD signifies its state & therefore it can be deemed as a nascent being full with vigor, vitality and purity which are apparently visible when we see a flower vis-a-vis any bud. Thus the bud can be deemed as the most basic element or even as precondition of elemental stage which we can deem as close to embryonic stage. It is said good things are harbinger of goodness & if this embryo merely by touching our ailing segments as per mudra can relieve us, then it’s advisable to be into this practice. Thus if such bud-gesture can consecrate our ailing parts then naturally it can be accepted that similitude between objects, things etc. are bound to deliver benefits in similar multitudes and can be concluded that they are true representatives for common objectives hinting on the similarities and benefits. Hence we can conclude that closing of fingers for praying, eating, nurturing, embracing, digging, THIS MUDRA or for whatever ensures life in some way to us. And if such mudras can disseminate life then mukul-mudra is certainly a life-saving remedy for the lifeless/ailing ones.
    “Mukul” in Hindi is meant by kali (flower bud) & other dictionary meanings suggested are sharir, deh, (human body) and prithvi even……… The mukul mudra deploys gesture resembling to flower bud or any bird’s beak and when we delve upon the Hindi meaning of “mukul” it encompasses all 5 elements through the meaning “deh”, since deh-body comprises of 5 elements and when we restrict the Hindi meaning as “prithvi” we are left with only 1 element…..strange if we ruminate this way. THUS WE DETOUR FOR A WHILE….
    5 MAIN ELEMENTS in Hindu school of thought responsible for the manifestation of Universe is as follows: EARTH (Prithvi-gandharupa): Can be touched & smelled and is distinguished by permanence & impermanence. Permanent one is in atomic form & latter is in form of work. Our living body & sensory system is related with earth & has to be in temporary phase. No sooner body dies & after burial or burning it, the same transforms to imperishable perpetuity i.e. atoms. WATER (Jal-rasrupa): It also has two characters as with the Earth- i.e. permanence & impermanence. Water cycle transforms its existence from eternal atomic existence to perishable existence during its transient stage & we are able to sense it, touch it, feel it and taste it too. AIR (Vayu-sparshrupa): It also has eternal atomic characteristic and perishable nature in form of work (Karya). We feel it during respiration process. Breeze is temporary form but air in atomic form always surrounds us. Puranas describes 49 types of Maruts (winds). Foremost seven are: 1. Pravaha 2 Avaha; 3,Udvaha 4. Samvaha; 5 Vivaha; 6 Parvaha and 7.Paravaha. FIRE (Agni-vayoranih): It also has eternal and perishable characteristic & is responsible to generate heat. Agni is one of the eight guardians who are distinguished based on their directions. This is in S.E. of the Cosmos. ETHER (sound-dhwani-shabdrupa): Ether has only one character & is eternal, which is carrier of sound and is perceived by hearing. FOUR PRIMARY ELEMENTS: The primeval mantra AUM or chanting of hymns does work as linkages between Jivatma (life force–atman or soul) to Paramatman or (Omnipotent of supreme soul). SOUL & SUPREME soul are also deemed as elements. TIME AND SPACE are also eternal and are deemed as other elements and are contributory towards actions. The last primary element is manas or MIND, which is sense-organ enabling path to experience the world.
    According to Devigita, Shakti has created world with 24 tattvas or elements. Vettam Mani advocates that the universe persists in embryo form i.e. in bijarupa and that five elements have been divided into two parts. In a process of combination of these ten parts different substances were inbred which are further subdivided into four parts. Thus these subdivided parts do join with other halves through combinations and other fractions to constitute the material bodies (sthulasariras). The cosmic body is summation of these material bodies. The first and pure manifestation of those five elements is the inner conscience and bodily organs- ear, nose, eyes, tongue & skin do enable this. However, the inner conscience (Antarkaranas) has four states/forms namely mind, buddhi, citta and ego. Mind is the place where we develop a concept or create a doubt (negative emotions) but in the state of certainty without doubts Buddhi is developed. The process of consideration and reconsideration of subjects belongs to the State of intellect called citta & is awakened. But ego or ahamkar bursts out if “I” takes over any one. Five coarse (rajasic) sensing organs are instrumental for five actions through mouth, foot, hand, excretory and the genital organ. Five pranas (breaths) are in various organs, thus prana is in heart, apana in anus, samana in navel, udhana in throat and vyana is over whole of the body. Summing up all organs constituting body are; 5 for knowledge, 5 for action, and 5 for pranas, and 1 each for buddhi & mind. Five elements manifest it into tattvas (materials) & consequently create body. Devigita states that eighty-four lakh species are established from these five elements only. The sukshmasaria (subtle body) has two prakarti (nature) namely maya & avidya. Vidya enables God’s discovery & avidya as perceived by Jiva (living being) only sees miseries. Therefore Vidya(Eternal Knowledge) and Avidya (ignorance) are instrumental for three variants of body types- Vivsa is person who is attached and is proud about material body; Taijisva attaches importance to the subtle body and lastly Prajna is one who is aware of casual body.
    TAOIST INTELLECTUALS and spiritualists have propounded that life has come out of the “unnamable”, the TAO, manifested through duality (positivity & negativity)-Yin and Yang, i.e. heaven and earth, day and night, masculine and feminine energies. Taoists advocate that matter is composed of Five Elements or Five Phases or Five Energies responsible for composition of any matter. WOOD: It is yang/masculine in character hence represented by strength and flexibility, as is with bamboo & has qualities of generosity and idealism. Wood predominated persons are bestowed with leadership, determination and planning acumen & they seeks always to grow and expand. Wood signifies the start of life, seedtime, sensuality and productiveness. They are often belligerent or confident, direct, and can have irritability and a drive too, usually outgoing, socially conscious but can be insensitive.  The Wood element is associated with negative feelings of anger, and positive feelings of tolerance and philanthropy. FIRE: It is yang/masculine in character, with upward direction and expansive energy. Fire is associated with dynamism, strength, persistence but restlessness as well. The element provides, warmth, enthusiasm and creativity, however an excess of it can bring belligerence, irritation and rash conduct. Fire provides heat and warmth, but can burn if in excess. It is responsible for zealous attitude while following life’s calling. Fire makes them polite, amusing, playful, passionate, and fluctuate emotionally & are fond of change and stimulants but develop hatred easily. EARTH: It has a balance of yin and yang, having feminine and masculine character together, with motion being inward and centering, and energy is calming, protecting which is associated with the turn of each of the seasons. Earth denotes for tolerance, introspection, realism, hard work and steadiness. The earth element seeks to bring harmony, rootedness and stability. It includes ambition, stubbornness, responsibility and long-term planning & on contrary it can represent selfishness. They turn to be usually warm, kind and supportive or overprotective and tend to merge with their environment, having difficulties with boundaries. The negative emotion is worrisome psyche and its positive trait is empathy. METAL: It is yin/feminine in character, having its motion inwards and its energy contracting. Metal represents the minerals, crystals, and gems of the world, signifying diamond could be found within us. The Metal Element is the breath of life & enables you to experience your own self-worth. The qualities associated with metal are unyieldingness, rigidity, persistence, strength and determination. They like minimalism, are organized, clean, and contained. They can be controlling, ambitious, forceful and set in their ways as metal is very strong; and they are self-reliant and prefer to handle their problems alone. The negative emotion associated with metal is grief, while the positive emotion is courage. WATER: is yin/feminine in character, its energy is downward and its motion is stillness and conserving. In Chinese Taoist thought, water is representative of intelligence and wisdom, flexibility, softness and pliancy; however, an over-abundance of the element is said to cause difficulty in choosing something and sticking to it. In the same way, Water can be fluid and weak, but can also wield great power when it floods and overwhelms the land. If Water Element is in balance, then you use your resources of energy, time, contacts, and money wisely, & if you neither hoard it nor squander it then life is ensured.  This element signifies stillness and rest, and takes time to rest and rejuvenate. It is instrumental for innovations and ideas, however these people appear to be bit reserved and are often very creative, sometimes even eccentric. They can appear to be cool and stoic, yet have the capacities to be still and deeply reflect. The negative emotion associated with water is fear, while the positive emotion is calmness.
    The other aspect is of 3 HUMORS which pivot around mind as the sole basis for body to exist. Mind is background representing support for life having hidden powers, the quintessence, and the casing of the body which provides the base for the physical body to exist. The humors do build the body constituents developing the system for the body and its functions. There are three principles of the humors and their threefold cause mental predisposition, elemental energy and physical cause. THE MENTAL TENDENCIES BECAUSE OF HUMORS: Mind controls the action before any physical action is made, whereas ignorance or negativity causes delusions of mind. Consequently after the unification of the mind with matter manifestation of 3 humors is enabled. Thus various tendencies are distinguished as per the situation- attachment is recognized as precondition of lungs (waat/wind humor), hatred by (pitta) Bile humor & that of close mindedness by (kuff) phlegm humor. Wind humor is composed of wind element & is associated with movement. Bile humor is composed of fire element & is associated with heat & transformation. Phlegm humor is composed of earth & water & is associated with cohesion & solidity. Tendencies of mind do cause these 3 energies to originate these 3 humors. THE ELEMENTAL ENERGY & THREE HUMORS -The cause of these energies for three humors is also based on five elements: the wind element cause Wind humor, the fire element causes Bile humor, and combination of earth and water elements produces Phlegm humor. The ether or space element is prevalent over all humors. THE PHYSICAL EFFECTS OF THE THREE HUMORS- The subtle wind element pertains with consciousness & is the cause for wind humor and its effects on nervous system; likewise sperm is associated with Phlegm humor. Lymphatic and endocrine systems, the menstrual blood (ovum), blood circulation, metabolism are all related with Bile humor. These 3 humors have triple-fold effect i.e. psychic, energetic and physical, thus physiology, anatomy and morphology of body system, regulation & functioning of the body, its organs, the brain, nerves, bones, blood circulation, lymphatic systems, digestion etc. all are controlled through humors. Thus balanced humors give positive health and harmony to the body/mind, and nurtures good base for the development of the body, mind, & immunity. Humors are interdependent, however loss of balance amongst humors (excess/deficiency) results into energy disharmony which consequently makes physical and mental instability & this triggers diseases at any point. Humors have specific location & functions in our body, thereby locating wind humor in lower part of body, bile humor is with middle part & phlegm is associated with upper part. Humors do knit the body with mind in a subtle manner; humors do have connections with their corresponding elements through negative emotions. Thus if any humor is in excess then that emotional surge has to be there & vice versa. It is known that emotional unrest is through mind & therefore either we are in distress or recuperate through mind only. Thus balancing of humors is vested through mind only. Pure mind would signify healthy body.
