SIRF EK PEDH (POEM)

Our wordly happiness is fleeting, like a desert mirage receding into the distance as we draw near. Am I comparing this fact with a tree? Yes, tree does what we can’t do, it is sometimes food or for someone just a wood. Blessed are those who recognize where their true joy lies and have enough strength to choose it…

I just can’t stop myself from recalling the lovely story in The Upanishads where Yajnvalka compares a tree and a human being while discussing Creation with Gargi: ” As a tree of the forest, / Just so surely is man,/ His hair are leaves, / His skin, the outer bark./ From his skin blood,/ Sap from the bark flows forth./ A stream, as from the tree when struck. / His pieces of flesh are under layers of wood. / His fibre is muscle like strong. / The bones are the wood within./ The marrow is made resembling pith./ A tree, when it is felled, grows up./ From the root, anew again, /A mortal when cut down by death,/ From what root does he grow up?”

So is my poem…

A tree is equally outside and inside the earth, this virtue is to be gained by human beings too because…when we are captivated by a larger goal, lower desires lose their grip on us…so let us stand firm as a tree…equally inside and outside.

Here we go…

सिर्फ एक पेड़

पथिक था नहीं …
जो तुम्हारे लिए रुक सकता
या आगे बढ़ कर …
कदम से कदम मिला सकता

तुम्हारे माथे का पसीना पोछना
व्यथ॔ प्रयास मेरा या सिर्फ मेरा सोचना
मेरी चेष्टा तुमको सुकून देना
भोर हो, कड़ी धूप या संध्या का हो बेला

लेकिन मैं एक पेड़ हूं …
अचल, अडिग लेकिन निराला
तुम तक पहुँचती हैं मेरी स्नेहिल छाया
धीरे से छूती हैं, तृप्त करने तुम्हारी क्लातं काया

वाणी नहीं, पर हां संवेदना छुपा है मुझमें …
मेरे घावों से भी द॔द रिसते है
गर्मियों में पहनता हूं, बालों में कितने ही घोसले जवाँ
लेकिन जब कटने लगते है पेड़, बिकने लगते हैं हवा

लिखे होंगे गुण मेरे बारे मे सबने …
कहा किसी ने मुझको, पत्थर खाकर भी फल देने वाला
लेकिन उससे भी बड़ा सत्य मैंने है कमाया …
जितना मैं बड़ा ऊपर, उतना ही धरती में हूँ समाया। ।
