BEAUTIFUL WITH COFFEE

There are good reasons to drink coffee and there are a few reasons not to. Today, on Beautiful Tuesday,  this post is for those who would like to find out beauty benefits from their beloved coffee. Well a typical serving of coffee contains more antioxidants than typical servings of grape juice, blue berries, raspberries and oranges.

‘Coffee Therepy’, which we are going to talk about, involves using brewed coffee to enhance the texture, health and appearance of skin and hair. Coffee tightens pores and removes dead skin cells, making the skin look younger.

Coffee has everything to do with taste and stimulating effect of the caffeine but what is the link with beauty? Our skin needs a proper scrub as gentle exfoliator, mask to tighten the skin, moisturiser to hydrate and an overall brighter healthier skin. This all can be achieved with ground coffee. So let’s try this scrub and mask….

image

COFFEE SCRUB

1/2 cup ground coffee
1/2 cup sugar
1/4 cup olive oil
1 tsp honey
Make a paste and apply it on your face. Wait for sometime and massage the scrub on your face with gentle circular motions. Wash off with water. It is one of the best exfoliators.

image

COFFEE FACE MASK

2 tsp coffee
2 tsp honey
2 tsp yoghurt
Mix all and apply on face. Wait for 20 minutes and wash with plain water.

The caffeine helps in diminishing cellulite and softening the skin, sugar works as exfoliator, honey will nourish the skin, oil will hydrate and moisture and yoghurt will clean the skin.
image

COFFEE ICE CUBES

Pour the freshly brewed coffee into the ice cube tray, place it in the freezer until solid. Take one cube and gently use on the face. It reduces puffiness and increase blood circulation to the face resulting in healthier skin.

It is said that for drinking coffee, the key is moderation, which is typically 2-3 cups a day. But for beauty benefits the key is according to the need of the skin, you can use the mask , scrub and ice cubes as and when required.

With age and other factors your skin is suddenly like, oh, what to do. Hit pause on the panic button and try coffee therepy.
And of course let me know by your comments, how it is working on you.

In Charaka Samhita (Ayurveda’s prime text), Neem tree is described as Sarva roga nivarini (which keeps all diseases at bay) or Arishtha (reliever of diseases).

So today on Beautiful Tuesday,  let us help ourselves to be more self cautious with help of ‘one tree pharmacy’ Neem.

NEEM SKIN TONER

There are so many skin toners available,  then also why we need this DIY Neem skin toner?
See what all this toner can do–

So what are we waiting for….
Take 20 Neem leaves and boil in half a litre of water till the leaves are soft and discoloured and the water turns green. Strain and store in a bottle. Use this liquid as a skin toner by just dipping a cotton ball into it and wiping your face with it every day.
Do this daily to see the difference…

EATING NEEM LEAVES

image

Neem are natural blood purifier, removes toxins from body and purify the organs, this was the perfect lecture from Ma, to force us to have Neem leaves.

Get some baby Neem leaves, grind into a fine paste, swallow a cheery size paste added with Gud (jaggery ) and drink lot of water.

NEEM BEGUN

We fry Neem leaves with brinjal known as ‘neem begun’, a very popular Bengali receipe.

Bengali meals always start with something bitter…. Usually the Karela fry or Shukto or Gima saag or neem flowers or neem leaves, when available…
image

I have developed a taste for Neem-Begun and I love it. Sharing the receipe…

Neem leaves 10
Brinjal 2
Salt to taste
Oil to fry

Fry the leaves and take it out. Then fry the brinjal cut into small pieces, add salt. Add the fried leaves and mix well.
Have with hot rice while starting the meal.

Beside eating, dried Neem leaves are burnt to keep away mosquitoes.
Dried neem leaves are put in cereals, grains to protect them from insects.

NEEM FLOWER

image

In the Indian states of Andhra pradesh and Karnataka, Neem flower is very popular for the use in ‘Ugadi Pachadi’ which is made on Ugadi day.

Most part of the Neem tree are awfully bitter, with the exception of its flower. White and delicate, Neem flowers with their off-white buds are almost too pretty to be eaten and unbelievably therapeutic.  During monsoon, it blooms.

It cures skin problems.
It cures stomach problems.
It improves eyesight.
It treats headache.
It reduces weight.

Add fresh or dried Neem flowers in mixed vegetable and relish its taste.

The flower oil is used in aromatherapy and has a calming and restorative effect.

NEEM FRUIT ( NIMBOLI)

image

The fruit possesses, a very unique bitter- sweet taste, has a smooth glabrous rind with single seed. When ripe it is eaten by many, by simply peeling the skin.
Neem oil is extracted from this fruit.

NEEM TEA

image

Very bitter but really good for people suffering from type 2 diabetes and ofcourse meant for health conscious people. ..

Neem leaves 5-6
Water 1 cup
Lemon juice
Honey

Boil one cup of water, add 5- 6 neem leaves.  Strain and serve. Can add lemon juice or honey, if desired.
A useful tea from Mother Nature’s drugstore…

NEEM TREE BARK

image

Neem tree bark are dried and powered to treat numerous medical illnesses and as a potent pesticide.
The aqueous extract of neem bark also possesses anticomplement and immunostimulant activity.
It produce highly potent antiacid secretory and antiulcer activity.
Powder of the bark is also used by many to make neem tea.
Ayurvedic medicines are made to cure fever.

DARK EYE CIRCLE’S

Are you worried about your dark eye circles and already spent a fortune on expensive medicines?
Make a paste of water and neem powder and apply around your eyes. Wash after 15 minutes. Do this daily and write to me about the miraculous difference…

NAIL PROBLEMS

Just massage your nails and cuticles with a few drops of Neem oil. It makes the nails strong, prevents from peeling or becoming brittle.
Wash your hand after some time to remove that strong smell.
Try and be benefitted…

Neem, the panacea of all diseases, generates heat in the body. This is supportive for generating intense forms of energy, but according to studies too much bitter is harmful for the liver. Therefore take Neem 4 days a week to maintain the balance. Neem helps to keep pitha dosha in balance.

The tropical evergreen Neem tree (Azadirachta indica) was Mahatma Gandhi’s favorite. Prayer meetings that he conducted at the Sabarmati Ashram were held under the neem tree and neem leaf chutney was a part of his everyday diet.

According to Indian mythology, during the churning of the Palazi, the ocean of milk, Lord Dhanvanthari appeared from the ocean, with  pot, full of nectar. Lord Indra, the king of devas, while taking the pot to Deva loka, spilled a few drops of nectar on the earth and legand has it that the Neem tree originated from the nectar.

Have you experienced the neem magic? Have you tried any of this before? Were they good enough or effective?

And why we should add it??

— It enhances the taste.
— It beats summer heat.
— It keeps the body cool.
— It helps to clean the walls of stomach.
— It helps to regulate the bowel movements.
— It flushes the toxin from the stomach.
(Due to the gelatinous nature when soaked).

TULSI VIVAH

image

Tulsi Vivah is the ceremonial marriage of the Tulsi plant to the Hindu God Vishnu or his Avatar Krishna. The Tulsi Vivah signifies the end of the monsoon and the beginning of the Hindu wedding season.

And I don’t want to miss this fact that when British came to India, they were plagued by mosquito menace and hence planted tulsi and neem all around their bungalows. They called tulsi the mosquito repellent plant.

Now before I give rest to my typing, let me share with you the mantra Ma has taught to chant while offering water to Tulsi…

महाप्रसादजननी सव॔सौभाग्यवध्दिनी ।
आधिव्यिधि जरा मुक्त तुलसी त्वं नमोस्तुते ।।

Mahaprasad janani
Sarvasaubhagyavardhini।
Aadhi vyaadhi jara muktam
Tulsi tvaam namostute।।

Natural Slimming

Going on diet is like officially declaring war —- you have to be prepared for a long siege, on short rations, a high level of public interest and the risk of failure!  Like any battle, you will need a plan of action, so on Beautiful Tuesday, let us have a strategy for a different way to fight those extra kilos.

image

1. Walk tall, stand tall and sit tall. This kind of passive exercise opens up your rib-cage and allows the oxygen to flow in better and it is oxygen that burns up fat.
2. A simple trick for perfect posture is to keep your knee caps up when you stand or walk. “Think” your neck longer by imagining  that a thread is attached to the top of your head, suspending you from the sky.
3. Learn to like drinking water. Aim at drinking at least six large glasses of water a day and always drink one before a meal.
4. Give yourself an attainable goal every day and keep a list of your successes. Goals can include having a totally sugar free day or a 30 minutes walk.
5. Never go into a food store when you are hungry.
6. Don’t cut yourself off from the sensual pleasure and creativity of food. Join a cooking class. Try cuisines that are low in calories and high in flavour.
7. Remember that one level tsp sugar contains 70 calories.
8. Take up gardening.  All that digging, bending, tending and weeding is good for you and the rewards of perfect blooms, tangy herbs and fresh vegetables are a bonus.
9. Make sure you have plenty of sleep, that is when your body restores itself and if you’re losing weight there is a lot of restoration to be done.
10. If you crave ice cream, try a skim milk variety or buy a single cone.
11. Eat most of your day’s calories early in the day, to give your digestion plenty of time to process the food. Then you will sleep better at night.
12. Decorate a room. All that stretching and bending burns calories and keeps you supple.
13. Learn yoga asanas from a friend or attend yoga classes.
14. Put a cushion or book between your knees when you’re sitting and then squeeze them together tightly and often to trim down thigh flab.
15. Wear tight fitting clothes or a belt when you go out to dinner, it will help you to get the “I am full” signal sooner.
16. Try walking for 20 to 30 minutes every day. If you use public transport, get off a stop or two earlier each day until you have established a good daily hike.
17. Every time you reach a goal, reward  yourself with something that is not food oriented, like a new pair of shoes or the latest music album. Tell yourself that you deserve to be pampered this way.
18. Cover the very worst photograph of yourself in plastic and stick it inside the refrigerator so that it is the first and the last thing you see everytime you open the door.
19. Eliminate the word ‘cheat’ from your vocabulary.  Give yourself permission for an occasional bite or something marvellous and then enjoy it thoroughly.
20. Curd mustard makes an excellent substitute for mayonnaise.
21. If you really crave for something sweet to drink, why not eat a slice of watermelon instead.
22. Avoid fast foods.
23. Try weak, black tea instead of having it with milk and sugar.  If the taste is terrible to bear, experiment with herb teas.
24. At home use a smaller plate than usual for your meals so that they don’t  look pathetic,  rattling around in the middle of a big dish.
25. If you have a bad day and blow off your diet, don’t panic. Remember,  nobody’s perfect. Instead of criticising yourself for one day’s failure,  praise yourself for all the successful days that preceded it and all the even more successful ones that will follow.

Beauty lies in the eyes of the beholder.
So you are already beautiful, if you have a family and friends to be with you. Inhale and exale the love and beauty around you.
Try it and be more beautiful. Take care…

Why don’t you say it??

Yesterday my friend called and said that she had a fight with her husband because she feels that her husband never thanks her for anything. He takes her for granted. On the other hand, her husband says that what is there to thank, these are her routine jobs.

Today on Beautiful Tuesday,  I think this is the best topic to talk about. Let us peep within and ask ourselves, do we take some things for granted always, especially  in relationships.

Relationship are the most strong and cemented bonds, but equally delicate and fragile, when it comes to words. If you care for someone show it, tell it, don’t keep it with yourself, because words can take his or her heart away, words can bridge the gap or cracks.
Words have energy and power to heal, to harm, to humiliate, to be humble and to show your personality.
Here are some things that couples should tell each other often.

I am proud of you

Add this line in your relationship dictionary now. If you tell him or her, he or she will instantly feel more confident. Taking pride in your partners goal and achievements , undoubtedly strengthens the bond. There are many times when work takes a toll, that time this line is music for the ear.

Good morning/night

We start our day or end our day by wishing all our WhatsApp friends good morning/ night. This may seem insignificant to wish your partner, but it isn’t. It tells your partner that he or she is the first thing on your mind and the last thing before you end the day. It underlines the fact that your relationship is your priority.

Thank you

These were the words that created a rift  between my friend and her husband yesterday. Why we forget to appreciate the little things our partner does for us. I think, a little gratitude goes a long way in keeping the spark alive. It won’t sound artificial at all, if we say these words from deep inside.

Sorry

This word is a miracle for a long lasting relationship. If you don’t hesitate  to apologise to each other, you will stand strong and stronger. But yes, if one is ready to say sorry, the other should always be ready to forgive. So practice saying sorry everytime you are wrong.

I care for you

It is not at all filmy to utter these words. It is more than holding hands and dating. It is infact, accepting each other’s weaknesses. It is seeing an imperfect person perfectly. It is easy to be there for your partner on happy days, but not that easy when the days are bleak. Lighten up your partner’s face by using this line.

I remember someone told me this, an old couple were asked that how they managed to stay together for 65 years. They said that they were born in a time when if something was broken, they would fix it, not throw it away.
Funny, but so true, don’t  you think so?

I think we should knit the threads of relationship with love, time and patience. What do you think? Say it with your words, say it with your thoughts…

Fresh Tuesday

image

What does freshness means to you??
Today I dedicate these beautiful lines of ‘Samuel Ullman’ to this beautiful Tuesday.

“Youth is not a time of life,
It is a state of mind,
It is not a matter of rosy cheeks,
Red lips and supple knees,
It is a matter of the will,
Quality of the imagination,
A vigor of the emotions,
It is the freshness of the deep springs of life”.

Very well said, don’t you think so?
And you have guessed correctly, today we are doing something with freshness.
I am coming up to you with age old tested Citrus Facial Refreshner.

But before that let me know, what does freshness means to you??
— starting the day with yoga?
— meditation ?
— hot shower or cold shower?
— listening to your favorite  song?
— a satisfying sleep?
— washing face with cold water?
— a good walk?
— nice music?
— smile of your baby?
— sipping your favorite  juice?
— chirping of the birds?
— a blooming flower?
— your favorite hill station?
The list is endless, it can be anything.
Think on it and you know why?
This ‘me time’, this thought procedure, will connect you better with yourself.

And for me, freshness means all of these but what appeals to me the most is…breathing. As long I am breathing, I am enduring  freshness.
And also, I like to improvise because I think it brings certain freshness.
So think on it, share with me also😊😊

And let’s do this simple DIY project.
