Let Foodie Saturday today witness reunion of some good friends…. Jamun, Litchi, lemon with oldie club soda and lots of refreshing ice cubes…

We all know that Jamun (Black Plum) promotes healthy heart, cures ulcer, increases haemoglobin, takes care of oral health, cures diarrhoea, cough and asthma, lowers blood sugar and so on……..

Litchi strengthens immunity, protects from free radicals, it’s skins best friend, lowers blood pressure, aids digestion and bowel movements, promotes weight loss and fluid balances, increase metabolism and what not……

Lemon juice is one of the main source of Vitamin C, cleans your bowel, has powerful antibacterial properties, strengthens the blood vessels and many more……

If we want to transform ourselves, the first thing to do is to attend to the mind. It is the state and health of mind that determines the flavour and flow of life. Well, I remember we are talking about mocktail, not dealing with life’s funda…..so here we are…..to transform all these ingredients into a delicious mocktail, we have to feel the flavour and flow of the drink while consuming it…..😊

JAMUN MET LITCHI MOCKTAIL

INGREDIENTS :

Jamun juice 1/2 cup
Litchi juice  1/2 cup
Lemon juice 2 tsp
Club soda 1/4 cup
Ice cubes

METHOD:

Mix Litchi juice, Lemon juice , club soda and ice cubes well. Slowly pour the Jamun juice and don’t stir it. It gives an attractive look and while sipping you can feel the difference……

They are fun, sometimes fizzy but always refreshing…….

SATTU MILKSHAKE

Sattu…this name reminds us of Bihar. Sattu–roasted gram flour is not just food in Bihar, it is an entire way of life.
Now-a-days all are health-conscious and Sattu has gained kudos for its great nutritional benefits.
Rich in minerals, proteins and fibre, low of glycemic index, Sattu is said to be the most economical antidote to diabetes.

Before I jump to one of the yummiest milkshake, let us shake hands with two popular Sattu drinks– meetha (sweet) and namkeen (savory).

SATTU SWEET DRINK

Sattu powder 2-3 tsp
Jaggery 2 tsp
Black salt 1/2 tsp (optional )
Cold water 1 glass

Add Sattu and jaggery in cold water and mix well, add black salt if you want.
Drink..sip…gulp…enjoy…

SATTU NAMKEEN DRINK

Sattu powder 2-3 tsp
Black pepper 1/4 tsp
Black salt 1/4 tsp
Roasted cumin powder 1/4 tsp
Lemon juice 3-4drops
Salt
Mint leaves chopped (optional)
Coriander leaves chopped (optional)
Green chilles chopped (optional)
Finely chopped onion (optional)

Add Sattu powder in cold water along with other ingredients. Traditionally green chilly and onion are added.  It’s upto you to add or not. Sip it and feel blessed….

SATTU MILKSHAKE

Sattu milkshake is the coolest one…once you finish the glass, the feeling that dances in the mind is shantiii, param shanti, freshhhhh……
So check this out…

Sattu 2 tbsp
Milk 11/2 cup
Rose syrup or Roohafza 2 tbsp
Cardomom powder a pinch
Dry fruits 1 tsp
Crushed ice

Mix all the ingredients in blender.
It will turn into a smooth consistency.
Garnish with nuts and serve chilled.

Sattu is considered a detox food that cleanses the system and aids in weight loss. An energising drink that not only quenches thirst but also protects us from heat strokes due to intense summer heat.

KHAJOOR BADAM SHERBET

Now in the month of Ramzan (also written as Ramadan), which is the ninth month in the Islamic calender, the healthiest drink to break the fast, after sunset (Iftar) is Khajoor- Badam Sherbet.

Today on Foodie Saturday, coming up with this Dates-Almond shake, which is my favorite too. It is simply heavenly…just one sip and you are in dates and almond heaven.

Besides rich flavor, this drink provides us the benefits of antioxidants, minerals and fiber.

KHAJOOR -BADAM SHERBET

INGREDIENTS :
1/2 cup khajoor (dates)
1 cup chilled milk
8-10 badam(almond)
2 cardamom
1/2 cup vanilla icecream
2 tsp sugar/honey (optional)

METHOD :
Blend all the ingredients in the blender. If required, add sugar/honey, as it is already sweet. Serve chilled.

It provides a burst of energy and just check its revitalising effect! Sip a glass of this chilled and refreshing drink…and let me know…how it was…

Aloe vera Mocktail

All are health conscious now a days. People are interested in socialising without imbibing. So providing colourful, healthy options in form of a mocktail, by using fresh juices, homemade syrups and quality mixers, allows guests to feel part of the fun without feeling leftout by not having a festive drink in their hand.

On this Foodie Saturday, we will make Aloe vera Mocktail, as planned on Monday.
Aloe vera Mocktail has got a tropical touch that’s also great for hydrating our skin, boosting our antioxidents and soothing our tummy.

Our body has the tendency to hang out food residues, various toxins and bacteria all of which block the intestinal lining of our digestive tract and prevents nutrients from being absorbed properly. Drinking Aloe vera juice regularly can help get out all the junk our body no longer needs which in turn prevents various digestive problems such as indigestion, colitis, ulcers and irritable bowel syndrome (IBS).

Before coming to the receipe, let me jot down one more thing. The pulp of Aloe vera is colourless, so your Aloe vera Mocktail will actually turn out in different colours depending on the fruit you use.
So here we are—

Aloe vera Mocktail

Ingredients :

2 carrots
2 green apples
Juice of 1orange/ 1-2 cup pineapple cubes
2tbsp Aloevera  juice
2-3 spoon honey
2- 4 tbsp water (optional)

Method:

Take out juice of the fruits in a blender. Add honey and Aloe vera juice. Top up with ice cubes. Serve chilled in your favorite glass.

Doesn’t it sound yummy? So don’t wait, make it and enjoy the bliss.

Coconut Mango Mocktail

It is a mere coincidence that my friend Lipi asked to come up with some mocktail adding coconut water, and yesterday in Taj Bengal, the bartender offered me a very dainty Coconut Mango Mocktail. I was bit speculative about the combination of coconut water and lime juice, but eventually it was very appetizing.

Coconut water is also known as mother nature’s sport drink. It is hydrating, tasty, exotic and full of nutrients.
Mango with its unique properties, is also considered as gesture of friendship in India.

Mango, the king of fruits, and coconut, the queen of juices, let’s see how this pair, as a mocktail, allures you. Lemon garnish is a nostralgic nod to this mocktail.

You can use bottled juices, but I suggest to use fresh mango and coconut juice, if possible. The freshness of the drink is more enticing.

So on Foodie Saturday,  here I am, with a coconut mango mocktail, the perfect recipe for this torrid summer.

COCONUT MANGO MOCKTAIL

Ingredients :
(For 1 glass )
1/2 cup mango juice or ripe mango cubes
1/4 cup fresh or canned coconut water
1tsp lime juice
Ice cubes

Method:
Combine all ingredients in a blender till smooth.
Serve in your best or tall glasses.
Use lime slices to decorate.

Watermelon Mocktail

This summer who is your favorite Hero or who are you fan of?
On this Foodie Saturday, let me confess that I am a big fan of this green, fat, round- round fellow, Mr. Watermelon.
He is simply amazing with it’s refreshing sweetness, rich burst of color, powerful health benefits, awesome flavor, and stimulating taste. Not only that, he adds brightness to your plate and reboost your body with antioxidant, fiber and Vitamins.

You all must be certainly enjoying its juice, but let us add something more, and turn it out into an interesting mocktail.

But before that let me tell you more about my hero, Mr. Watermelon.

A. It prevents dehydration, as made up of 92% of water.
B. It relieves muscle soreness due to amino acid present in it.
C. It keeps blood pressure low because  of pottasium in it.
D. It is very good for kidney and eyes.
E. It prevents asthma due to vitamin C and other nutrients.
F. It provides high amount of vitamins, minerals and antioxidants.
G. It is boon for skin and hair as it contains Vitamin A.
H. It helps to prevent constipation and promote regularity for a heavy digestive tract,  because of its water and fibre content.

Ok, now let me share this felicitous drink with you.

Watermelon Mocktail

Ingredients (for 6) :
8 cups seedless watermelon cubes
6tsp honey
1 lemon juice
1 cup water
2 cup club soda
Ice
Mint sprigs

Method:
Blend the watermelon in a mixer jar with some crushed ice, mint sprig and water in it.
Add lemon juice.
Add club soda for the fizz.
Serve chilled by decorating some mint sprig on the top.
You can strain the juice, but I avoid straining to retain the fiber.

It is one of the delicious mocktail and you will also agree after tasting it.

Weekend Fruit Drink

Hi, it’s Foodie Saturday again. Thanks for liking the carrot welcome drink.

It’s summer and to beat the heat, let’s  continue with more of chilled welcome drinks.

By the end of the week, we usually have some fruits left in the fridge, let’s make a healthy weekend clearance drink out of it.

Why should we have fruits, a kid can also reply to that. But what are we losing by not having fruits?

Well it’s the same question with two angles and to make the angle straight, let us check what fruits give us —

— Fruits are source of essential nutrients, including potassium, dietary fibre and vitamin C.
— Dietary Fibre from fruits, as part of an overall healthy diet, helps reduce blood cholesterol level, may lower risk of heart disease.
— Most fruit are naturally low in fat, sodium and calories.

The list is endless, and the recipe is painless. So what for we are waiting?
Here we go—-

WEEKEND    FRUIT    DRINK

Ingredients:
Milk 1litre
Musk melon 1/2
Banana 1
Apple 2
Cheeku 1
Ripe Mango 1
Grapes 50gms
Any other fruit if you wish
Honey 2tbsp
Sugar accoding to taste
Crusted nuts and raisins
A scoop of vanilla icecream

Method:
Peel, deseed and cut all the fruits.
Mix all ingredients together except nuts and icecream.
Blend this in a blender.
Serve chilled.
Top up with nuts, raisins and icecream.

It serves six.

If summer is not the excuse good enough to try it, I don’t know what else will be.
